At 6 minutes to midnight on Sunday evening before the UK Games Expo, we nabbed the very last stand just 6 minutes before the show plans were finalised! Why so late? We were deliberating whether to or not as we but after some testing at board game cafes in Brighton we’ve decided to risk it!
This was quite a challenge as we not only would have to give demos but also look after our 2 young kids, Amelie, 2.5y and Sammie, 7m. However, all things considered they did amazingly well and we were surprised at the level of disruption everyone was willing to put up with to play Assembly (or did they just want to sit down for 10 minutes?). Sammie decided to cut her 3rd tooth whilst we were there so she wasn’t always at her jolliest and things were a little testing at times – so thank-you to everyone who put up with her!
Over all 3 days, the stand was hugely busy – we started off with just 1 game setup then ended up having to have a second setup as a small queue was forming. We regularly had people waiting for a seat to play Assembly.
We are feeling so humbled that people want to play something we created and thank-you to each-and-every one of you who have said kind words about our project through Kickstarter, social media, in person or otherwise. They really are appreciated and mean a huge amount to us. We also need to give a big shout-out to Chris Cox who kindly helped us out on our stand on Saturday afternoon, easing the burden a bit and giving us a chance to playtest a couple of our upcoming games (if you are interested in playtesting head over to our website and fill in a form and we’ll get back to you).
We met several bloggers, podcasters, retailers and publishers whilst at the Expo including a film crew making a documentary about board games. You can follow them on Twitter: @boardgamemovie
As some of you may have already guessed, we had a special visitor to our stand: Rahdo himself, and one of our backers was lucky enough to play Assembly with him!
